45.72146.10.1 | Purple 2nd Generation
Capitol Pressing
45.72146.10.1 features a new label design, when Capitol came back with an updated "retro" version of its original purple label design from the 1940s. These pressings were manufactured at the now 2-year old Capitol pressing plant in Mississauga, and feature a bumpy ridge, as well as a distinctive "Capitol-EMI" perimeter print that is also slightly thicker than its next incarnation (45.72146.11.1).
Availability
This variation is as common as the 3rd generation (45.72146.11.1) and was pressed in smaller quantities. This pressing was technically available between 1978 and 1980 when Capitol changed the perimeter text on the label, but copies surface more sporadically than 3rd generation pressings.

General Information
These purple pressings were pressed as needed to fulfill demand as it was required (and was not a global reissue effort like the Beatles Forever series). Not all Beatles titles were issued on this label generation, and few copies were pressed, possibly only when the previous orange label stock was down at the warehouse.
Pressing Information
45.72146.10.1 (Capitol pressing) was a STEREO release and these were pressed from another different lacquer cut than 45.72146.8.1. Although the label does not state a stereo release, and although the matrix numbers remain similar to previous mono pressings, the mix found on this pressing is nonetheless a true stereo mix.

Packaging
These new purple label pressings were most likely sold in either the flat finish grey Capitol sleeve with purple dome logos concentrically arranged around the die-cut hole, or its glossy silver counterpart.
