All My Loving Variations List

All My Loving / This Boy

45.72144.5.3 | Mistake USA pressing (1971)

This variation is really interesting because it is a USA pressing of a Canadian title (with its Canadian catalogue number and credit information). This pressing is a mistake and was quickly cancelled, although copies surface regularly. It is not known why and how Capitol USA had the master and information for a Canadian single, but it was produced as part of the general back catalogue reissue from 1971.

Availability

This variation was available for a short time in 1971 before it was cancelled.

General Information

In 1971, the Jacksonville pressing plant in the USA was tasked to (re)press the Beatles singles catalogue on the target label (now with a white dot in the target logo), and the pressing plant mistakenly pressed this Canadian title, before quickly cancelling it. It is not known why or how Capitol USA had the master and information in hand to press this otherwise foreign release, but a few hundred copies made their way onto the market before Capitol realized its mistake. The labels credits are the same as the Canadian credits (which were different from the USA credits for these songs).

Some copies also feature the THIS BOY label on both sides (a double mistake!), although the audio remained correct, with both songs pressed onto the records.

Pressing Information

45.72144.5.3 is a mono Jacksonville pressing, and matrix numbers are as follows:

Side A: 44776-2-72144 H10 #1
Side B: 44776-1-72144 H10 #1

Some sources also report pressings with an added "0" at the end, and others even claim some have the Canadian matrix number (7XCE 17560), but this needs to be confirmed as no copies of the sort have been documented to date by the authors.

Packaging

These mistake pressings would have been sold in a blue and yellow target Capitol sleeve.
