Beatlemania Variations List

Beatlemania!
With The Beatles

This album was a unique Canadian release

LP.6051.6.1 | Orange 1st generation (RCA)

This variation was released on the first generation orange label in 1972. Later orange label pressings are often associated with thinner flexible Dynaflex type pressings, but these early orange label pressings are still thick and rigid, and pressed by the same RCA machines as all the previous rainbow pressings.

Availability

LP.6051.6.1 was available in 1972 (for approximately one year) until a new "Dynaflex" version of the same pressing was produced around 1973. This pressing is relatively common, and was made from the same plates as the previous few variations.

General Information

Although these orange pressings are quite common, the early orange labels are more difficult to find; 2nd generation and third generation orange label pressings are much more common. The first generation is the scarcest of all three generations of orange labels.

First generation orange labels can be identified by the gold perimeter print around the label, second generations have black text that is much easier to read. This pressing was made in small quantities when demand required a new run of pressings to restock the warehouse. Another interesting fact is that this label generation was unique to Canada since Capitol USA opted for the Apple label for their Capitol reissues instead.

Although the label information is identical to all previous variations (same text and same font), the text layout was changed to accommodate the new label design. The company logo now being at the bottom instead of the top, two song titles having been moved above the spindle hole.

Pressing Information

As was the case for all previous variations, Capitol of Canada subcontracted once again the RCA pressing plant in Smith Falls (Ontario) to manufacture new batches of albums with the new “first generation of orange labels". Matrix numbers are identical to the previous few variations, being made from the same plates, and therefore also feature the “dash 4” on both sides:

Side 1: XEX-447-4
Side 2: XEX-448-4

The -4 plates have been used sporadically since approximately 1966 (copies from the rainbow brackets up to the orange 2nd generation label have been confirmed with -4 numbers on both sides), indicating that very small runs were pressed at a time, as needed between 1966 and 1975. Other numbers have also been spotted during this time period, so it is possible that different sets of plates were used simultaneously until the first stereo pressings of Beatlemania! were introduced in 1975.

Cover

The cover of this variation is similar in design to previous variations, and was also manufactured by Modern Graphics. These have a 10 mm straight inner seam.

Covers still featured the words PRINTED IN CANADA inside a box at the bottom of the back cover, alongside the monophonic playing instructions.

The cover construction is identical to all previous variations, with a front slick construction.

Packaging

This edition was shipped in tight shrink wrap, with or without a plain paper LP inner sleeve. These Capitol sleeves are square and have a slight curve at the top.
