Beatles Albums Released in Canada

Twist and Shout

(This release is unique to Canada)

Cassette Tapes (1982-1993)

Canadian Exclusive

Beatlemania, as well as the other 6000 series Beatles titles were curiously never issued on Reel tapes or 8-track tapes like the other "American format albums". It was released on cassette, but not as early as other titles that were reissued as early as 1969 on a white shell cassette with white paper labels. The first iteration of Beatlemania! on cassette was in 1982 on the SDR format with black and yellow inlay cards. It was then reissued regularly on the colored inlay series, as late as 1987 when the whole Beatles catalogue was standardized to the UK formats, following the Beatles' catalogue release on CD. No North American format album was released on CD, except for a few special edition box sets featuring only USA albums.

Fantasy Items

Unofficial releases / Bootlegs / Counterfeits

The three unique Canadian albums (Beatlemania, Twist and Shout and Long Tall Sally) are quite sought after by collectors around the world, but Canada being a small market, it is always surprising to see some "fake" items that have been produced by some passionate collectors over the years (most copied albums are usually USA or UK releases). Here then are some interesting items that have been documented, mostly in formats in which this album has never been issued before.

For example, the three Canadian albums were only ever produced by Capitol on LP and cassette formats (so no 8-track, reel or colored vinyl have been made). Counterfeiters also usually tend to produce a facsimile of the original artwork, which gives clues that these items cannot be authentic (printer markers that were not active anymore by the time CDs were produced ( Dr. Ebbett's), odd font on record labels, "Manufactured in the USA" for an album that was only ever produced in Canada, etc.).In any case, these items are generally pretty fun, and are included here for purely interest purposes, but also to identify clearly which releases are official and which ones are unofficial.
